Media of Teaching

SEMOGA BERMANFAAT.... :) :)

Project Based Learning

Project Based Learning
v Definition

Project-based learning is considered an alternative to paper-based, rote memorization, teacher-led classrooms. Proponents of project-based learning cite numerous benefits to the implementation of these strategies in the classroom including a greater depth of understanding of concepts, broader knowledge base, improved communication and interpersonal/social skills, enhanced leadership skills, increased creativity, and improved writing skills.
According to the Buck Institute for Education (BIE), project-based learning has its roots in experiential education and the philosophy of John Dewey. The method of project-based learning emerged due to developments in learning theory in the past 25 years.

v The core idea of project-based learning is that real-world problems capture students' interest and provoke serious thinking as the students acquire and apply new knowledge in a problem-solving context

v Role of Student
Students must organize their own work and manage their own time in a project-based class.
v Role of Teacher
The teacher plays the role of facilitator, working with students to frame worthwhile questions, structuring meaningful tasks, coaching both knowledge development and social skills, and carefully assessing what students have learned from the experience.

Blended Learning

Blended Learning
v Definition
Blended learning is a formal education program in which a student learns at least in part through online delivery of content and instruction with some element of student control over time, place, path, and pace.

v Benefits of blended learning
Blended learning allows teachers to do what they do best – work directly and closely with individual students and small groups – by harnessing the adaptive power and precision of technology.
The best blended learning approaches use technology to:
-         help each student master the content and skills they need,
-        allow teachers to get the most out of their planning and instructional time, and
-   streamline operations with costs similar to – or less than – traditional schooling.
-         full provision of module related documents in electronic format;
-         regular formative assessment with feedback,
-         opportunities to learn from each other collaboratively,
-         electronic personal development planning,
-         the opportunity to submit all appropriate summative assessments electronically,
and that all face to face learning is interactive

Natural Approach

Natural Approach
v Background
The natural approach is a method of language teaching developed by Stephen Krashen and Tracy Terrell in the late 1970s and early 1980s. It aims to foster naturalistic language acquisition in a classroom setting, and to this end it emphasises communication, and places decreased importance on conscious grammar study and explicit correction of student errors.
v Definition
Natural Approach is a method for beginners based on observation and interpretation on how a person acquires his first language .It emphasizes on communication rather then on grammar .
v Theory of Language

The Communicative view of language is the view behind the Natural Approach. Particular emphasis is laid on language as a set of messages that can be understood.
v Theory of Learning
The Natural Approach is based on the following tenets:

-         Language acquisition (an unconscious process developed through using language meaningfully) is different from language learning (consciously learning or discovering rules about a language) and language acquisition is the only way competence in a second language occurs. (The acquisition/learning hypothesis)
-         Conscious learning operates only as a monitor or editor that checks or repairs the output of what has been acquired. (The monitor hypothesis)
-         Grammatical structures are acquired in a predictable order and it does little good to try to learn them in another order.(The natural order hypothesis).
-         People acquire language best from messages that are just slightly beyond their current competence. (The input hypothesis)
The learner's emotional state can act as a filter that impedes or blocks input necessary to acquisition. (The affective filter hypothesis)
